Who are we?
DIAL is an information, advice and support organisation run by, and for, disabled people and carers in Barnsley. Established in 1985 from the belief that disabled people themselves are the ‘experts’ in understanding the needs of disabled people and with a willingness to share that experience and knowledge. We attribute the success of our organisation to our ethos which is to:
“See the person first”
Today we remain an independent user- led organisation. We have built a reputation for providing high quality, professional services, whilst maintaining a friendly and down to earth approach.
What do we do?
User involvement is key to everything we do. All our services have been developed in response to the needs and demands of our target audience – local disabled people and their families
We work with local people to co-produce and design the services we deliver – then we know we are doing it right!
We raise awareness amongst the community of the abilities and rights of disabled people and represent their views with local service planners and providers.
Our trustees and management team are actively involved in local networks and partnership working within the borough helping to influence and shape service provision and developments so we can all enjoy:
Our vision for
“A Life without Boundaries”
“Everyone has a friendly approach and makes you feel welcome and relaxed and that you’re not on your own”
Chief Executive Officer
Direct dial 01226 444070
My job is to steer and guide DIAL’s strategic direction. I must really love my role because I have been doing it for over 30 years! I am passionate about delivering excellence, valuing differences and co-producing everything that we do.
My job at DIAL is to find out what our local disabled people need and then design the services to fit – that’s the easy bit! After that I have to persuade someone to give us the money so we can deliver those services.
Team Leader (Advice & Information)
At DIAL my role is to manage and motivate my troops, ensuring the advice given meets our quality standards and is peer-led and person-centred.
ICAS Lead Advocate
At DIAL my job is to help clients through the process of complaining about the NHS or Social Services. It’s a very busy role to have.
Community Outreach Advisor (Welfare Rights)
Hello I’m Mick, I deliver outreach sessions in the North Area Council Wards – where people can drop in without an appointment to get advice.
Volunteer Support Officer
My job at DIAL is to support and involve the volunteers in everything we do. I am also responsible for organising our Volunteer Celebration Event, a hugely important night in the DIAL calendar.
Personalisation Lead (Personal Health Budgets & Peer Support)
Here at DIAL I support people with long term health conditions through a peer support network ‘Grin and Share it’ that brings together people to share their experiences, make friends and generally have fun!.
Project Co-ordinator for hOurbank
What a great job I have, working with people who feel passionate about helping others. I take care of hOurbank – making things happen, such as one to one time exchanges, community events and fundraising.
