Description
The Mapplewell & Staincross Pop-in Club is not dissimilar to the Darby & Joan of yesteryear, where members of the community come together to socialise and meet up with old friends and acquaintances in a warn and friendly environment. There are no age limits. however, and so young and old are all welcome.
Entertaining
Every week there is some form of entertainment, often a professional singer or a group that are used to performing for a live audience. Occasionally we will ‘self entertain’ and have a ‘sing-a-long’ with words projected onto a screen or we will hold a quiz or similar ‘brain teaser’.
We have had talks in the past from the likes of the Air Ambulance Service and the Mercy Ships, or interesting presentations such as ‘murdering anaesthetists’ (no one dared fall asleep at that event) or light exercise.
Activities
Generally we will have two games of bingo during the intermission (£1:00 for both games) and there are small cash prices for the line and full house. There is also a raffle with five prize draws where winners can chose their own prizes from a selection.
Special Events
Like most social clubs, we will celebrate major events, for example the Queen’s Jubilee, the King’s Coronation and, of course, Christmas. We look to subsidise the celebrations through grants and other funding and will invite other clubs and activity goers, often swelling our numbers to more than 100 visitors.
